47. Dream Becomes Reality

-

Yesterday I stood awaiting a 14 bus to town,
There standing on the hardened walk were seven of my brothers.
We exchanged brief glances as in thought to say
“We are bound by fate to suffer by others’ malcontent.”
The electric shofar began to sound
And peoples’ heads turned down; The hardened
Pavement yielded to our stare the sufferers child.
The melted pavements scene took our minds not so far a’back
To the drama of solution where mothers and
Children are being gassed… with a last
Breath the mothers’ burning lungs and heart
Silently praise the Holy One; Their eyes tell
The tale of Isaac and their hearts of Job.

Death then taps them gently, and in that moment
They know of rebirth and realize the hope.

Their bodies, emptied of soul, are carted to the ovens.

The spark of power that set them loose
Is their struggle to be “great.”
That power, then, turns to hate
And the fires of that vast military machine
Crushed and ground six million beings.

There their earthly essence is burnt and charred;
The scene follows their paths out through the chimney to the
Grey fated sky. The spirit wind carries
Their reoccurring essence forward through this eternal now;
The drama then shifts our gazes toward
The blue Zion sky:
We search and question in the scene above.
The answer in the “why”comes to me
Through questions posed before.
Wherein does the answer lie?
Then “how” unfolds within our eyes;
Masses of “Christian brothers” turn and sway
Only as machines must do.

There is no awareness in machines,
Only cogs that turn on Axis’ powers.

The spark of power that set them loose
Is their struggle to be “great.”
That power, then, turns to hate
And the fires of that vast military machine
Crushed and ground six million beings.

Suddenly the shofar ceased to sound…
The scene faded and awareness came to be of “why”
Staring at the blue Zion sky.
